Knoxville Children's Choir

                        Statement of Purpose

The Knoxville Children’s Choir is dedicated to the belief that children are musically expressive and deserve the opportunity to explore and develop their abilities in a supportive, nurturing, and fun-filled environment. The program is committed to musical and educational excellence. Its goal is to help young singers reach their fullest potential as self-confident, creative performers and as well-informed, critically astute and enthusiastic appreciators of music. KCC desires to share with its members and audiences alike the uniqueness and joy of communication through music.

Since its founding in 1996, KCC has served hundreds of students, grades 4 and above, from Knoxville and surrounding counties, and has developed into the area’s finest children’s choral program. Members are educated in vocal and choral techniques, ear training, sight singing, movement and effective public speaking and dramatic presentation. Their musical palates are honed through exposure to a smorgasbord of vocal styles, including classical and contemporary choral literature, multicultural repertoire, folk song, spirituals, jazz and popular music.

The choir sings throughout the year at community and charitable events: the annual Clayton Holiday Concerts with the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra, the Fantasy of Trees for Children’s Hospital and the Rossini Festival sponsored by the Knoxville Opera Company. It has appeared with the Knoxville Choral Society, the Knoxville Symphony Youth Orchestra and the Appalachian Ballet Company. Its members are seen regularly in Knoxville Opera Company productions. It presents an annual Spring Show for hundreds of area school children and has performed in the Bahamas, Orlando, Cincinnati, New York, Boston, Chicago, Williamsburg, Biltmore House and Disney World.

KCC is a non-profit organization and a member of the Arts and Cultural Alliance of Knoxville. Its Directors are members of the American Choral Directors Association, the Music Educators National Conference, the Tennessee Music Educators Association, Tennessee Vocal Association and the National Association of Teachers of Singing.
